People have created some fantastic vehicle designs already. Some of them are highly complex, which is especially impressive considering that the building is still poorly optimised, and things really start to slow down once you've got so many parts (it'll improve!).
From the Facebook page:
This one is a horse. A Trojan horse, with hidden guns.
Handling is fantastic
I tend to make more, er, utilitarian designs. One of mine:

I just ended up sticking the largest possible engine on the smallest possible car. Those mountains are a blast at speed. I've never built anything like that fortress though, very impressive.

That first one is insane, it's like a Star Destroyer. I also had a massive aeroplane that someone built. I don't have it anymore, but it was big enough that I could use it as a test for performance improvements to the build screen. Had about 900 active snap points which was killing the game a bit (the star destroyer thing probably has near that many too).

Can you please share some of your creations? I especially like that big one from first screenshot ;o

The coolest ones aren't mine, those are some that other people have sent me. Mine are always more like the last one, which might be more practical but isn't nearly as interesting to show.

Prepare yourselves for the killdozer

I had my share of gigantic cars, but this design became my favorite:

I really need to add some melee parts - spikes, cow catcher... - for killdozer-like designs.

I spent a while building a car stable and fast enough to get some serious air. I then attempted to jump the wall. Eventually found a hill near a wall with a relatively flat run-up at very high speed. Cleared the wall height with the jump and then hit the invisible barrier of the sandbox.
I was sad. But it was awesome trying it out.
Oh yes. Melee weapons please.
I also discovered that you can use cannons as a sort of crude booster. Not worth the weight, but booster rockets would really rock in the build out too.

Yep, you cannot exit the map I'm afraid. But consider that the alternative would have been falling forever into the void. Good job finding a place to clear the wall though, because I specifically checked the terrain to make sure there weren't any super easy spots to do that.
Boosters are something I've thought about but I'm not sure of the best way to implement them. They shouldn't be enabled all the time because then they'd basically be the same as just adding another engine (except that they'd only work in one direction).
So you need to be able to turn them on for short periods. I could make them use tons of energy but give you a big boost while they're on, but the time when you need them most is probably when you're in a fight and low on energy and need to get out of there fast.
So actually I've been thinking of implementing limited fuel, although I'm sort of against it because managing that stuff can be annoying - think of having to eat in San Andreas. Have "fuel depots" that you can park on to refuel, engines use a little bit of fuel, boosters use a lot, can add extra fuel tanks but they explode easily. Might have to test it out sometime to see if it's fun.
Also, boosting vehicles with guns is totally cool, it was one of the first things I tested out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hcZxXP-UE4(check out those amazing part graphics)

To answer the earlier question about ammo, I basically assumed it wouldn't be as fun to run out of ammo and made it infinite for now. But it's something that would be good to test in the future, and yeah that would mean an ammo storage part(s).
Re the above post, woah that's a big vehicle to get on top of the wall! I'm sorry there's nothing cool out there when you do make it over (there's just an invisible wall, so you can't get to the other side). It'd be cool if it at least did something fun like in Motorcross Madness.

Here's my go: The Scorpion.

I have a mini "scorpion" car but it's about 0.1% as scorpion-ish as yours:

Here's a couple things I've made
A few to many guns? (Not sure why that one gun is floating in midair, lol)
